Busted.
Brighton
Centre - 14th February 2017.
Last
year saw the release of Busted's 3rd album Night
Driver, their first studio album
since 2003. So now they are back on tour with this latest album and
have landed at The Brighton Centre on Valentines day.
Night
Driver is a major departure from the wannabe pop-punk of the early
noughties,
and to prove this Busted kick off tonight's show with Kids
with Computers, an interesting
choice to say the least. Is this Busted's way of proving to us that
they are a changed band? One where there are no guitars in sight?
Has
Charlie (Simpson, guitars, vocals and breaker-upper of Busted)
decided that he's done pop-punk, done rock and acoustic and now wants
to play at being an 80's popstar? It does look like it.
This
is not to say that new Busted is not enjoyable, it is, and they are
pretty good at this synth pop thing, the major problem seem to be
that most of the crowd don't want 80's Busted, they want Air
Hostess Busted,
proven by the excited screams and continuous jumping around that
occurs when said song is played.
The
show continues bouncing to-and-frow between old and new songs, and
there is nothing bad to be said about the performance tonight. It is
full of energy, its slick, its sexy and it sounds good. When the band
leave the stage after and encore of What I go to School
for, Coming home and
Those days are gone,
the crowd still want more and a guarantee if Busted come back to
Brighton they will be welcomed back with open arms, and intrigue as
to what their next sound will be.
Deaf Havana.

Deaf
Havana are back!!
Their
new, excellent album, All These Countless Nights is
out and tonight is the album release show!
Opening
with Ashes, Ashes
they get a heroes welcome but it is not until single, Sing
that things really get going.
Deaf
Havana are on form, everything is sleek and fierce. Flowing
effortlessly from older songs (that the crowd sings back in full
voice) to new songs that will soon be ingrained in fans brains and
hearts just the same. If tonight is a preview of what's to come then
expect Deaf Havana to become everyone's new favourite band.
All These Countless Nights is out now,.

Monday's are hard enough, but this morning is bleaker than a usual Monday. The post Christmas blues have hit me hard ( and I know I'm not the only one) so I created a little 'Motivate me Monday' playlist to help me on my way to work this morning which you can listen to below or direct on Spotify here
(one or two of these may be unsafe for work, or delicate ears *sweary)
2016 Motivate me Monday playlist track listing and why;
Live Like This - The Xcerts (I love everything about this song)
Get Better - Frank Turner (Petty much my anthem of last year, give it a listen and you'll see why)Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars (You cannot be unhappy while listening to this song,
Kings and Queens - Thirty Seconds to Mars (I don't have a reason, I just like it. a lot).
Part of me - Katy Perry (Because people will screw you over, but they can't destroy you! AHHHH!!)
Don't Be So Hard on Yourself - Jess Glynne (Pretty self explanatory).
Throne - Bring Me The Horizon (It makes me want to be shouty and get stuff done in a good way)
Ambition is Critical - The Blackout (See above).
Bite My Tongue - You Me At Six (See above above).
Let It Go - Idina Menzel (It's an incredible song, from an incredible film, and no one can deny the power of this song NO ONE IS IMMUNE!).
Perfect - One Direction (Tuunneee, and it does sound perfect, debating using the lyrics for my tinder profile!?)
Black Magic - Little Mix (A proper girl power, dance-along, sing-along song).
Memento Mori - Young Guns (I debated between this and Infinity, but this won because it's got more go to it and makes me want to dance).
Don't you (Forget about me) - Simple Minds (It's a bit of a tune, and It reminds me of growing up, because My Mum is a massive Simple Minds fan, so I've been listening to them my whole life).
Festival Song - Good Charlotte (One of my most favourite bands ever, this song reminds me of what I was like when I was younger and cooler, I much preferred that Lisa, and I want her back).
Let me know what you think, and what you're listening too this morning.
It was a Friday night, we sat in Pizza Hut after only ordering chocolate fudge cake trying you work it out.
What could out happened to make something that was so great go so so wrong?
What was going to happen next?
Would we ever see them again?
Why would Charlie leave Busted?
That was 10 years ago, when a lot of my friends weren't old enough to drink and when Pizza Hut was considered a nice place to eat out, and how things have changed. Since then we have finished college, got jobs, seen the world, moved out, and some of us have got degrees and babies of our own while some have moved back home and had three lots of heart surgery.
With the announcement of their comeback earlier this week I got thinking to what else has changed in the time Busted went away and came back...
1) We can tweet, Instagram and Facebook our 'feels'.
Yup, when Busted broke up we couldn't read about it all on Facebook, and let everyone know we were devastated with a status. There was no live tweeting our reactions or instagraming our tear stained faces in front of our poster covered walls.
Twitter didn't launch until July 2006, by which time we had mostly recovered, Facebook also launched later that year (it had been around before but only to those at select universities, colleges and companies) and we did Instagram anything until 2010.
2) We can't shop in Woolworths, Borders or Virgin Megastore :(
Need new music, films, baby clothes, school stationery, sweets or random home accessories with a bit of pick'n'mix on the side? Head to Woolworths! It was pretty much Santa's workshop, where you could get a gift for anyone. Including Busted albums, but we could also pick them up at Virgin Megastores (later known as Zavvi) and when we were a bit older, we could go to Borders for our music, books and coffee needs. Sadly Woolworths, Zavvi and Borders all closed in 2009.
3) Doctor Who is back!
Doctor Who made its comeback in 2005, with Christopher Eccleston playing the 9th Doctor and Billie Piper as his assistant. Since then The Doctor has regenerated 3 times, had 6 main companions and swapped his sonic screwdriver for sunglasses.
4) We got pretty cool mobile phones now.
Back when Busted were breaking up most of us had pay as you go phones, costing 12p per text and each text being only 160 characters. How on earth did we manage!? Now we are all attached to the internet, its generally cheaper to have a contract and we are always having the Android vs iOS argument. Yes the phone you can't live without wasn't a thing until 2007, when the first iPhone was launched with the app store coming a year later along with the first release of Android software (with a snazzy HTC dream).
5) SMASH HITS MAGAZINE!!!!
Smash Hits stopped being published in 2006. No more fortnightly 'juicy secrets' from our favourite bands DEVASTATING!
So is the new world ready for the return of Busted? Can they still do the Busted jump? Can I still do the Busted jump? Well we shall all find out when they tour the UK next May.
What do you think about Busted's reunion? Let's discuss it in the comments...

Last week saw the return of Fall Out Boy to the UK, so my sister and I headed to Leeds to see them (again).
Our evening began with Professor Green, who
may be an unusual choice of support for Fall Out Boy and isn't
someone I'd pay see headline, but he was really good. Really!
And while I'm not rushing to see him again, I can honestly say he is
very good at what he does.
Fall Out Boy are given
a hero's welcome when they take to the stage. Beginning their 90
minute set with 'Sugar we're going down' the rest of the set list was
that of dreams, every song was an anthem that brought a new burst of
energy to the crowd.
Most of the songs tonight sound exactly like the recorded version, with Patrick Stumps vocal skills being outstanding as usual, as were the drum solo, stand out rifts and acoustic songs showing each band members talent that make Fall Out Boy the musical superheroes they are.
There were moments when it seemed like the band were just going through the motions, however, these were out shone by the moments such like the acoustic songs on the B stage in at the back of the crowd and during particular highlights such as' 'Centuries' and 'American Beauty/ American Psycho'. The crowds energy, however doesn't relent until last tones of Saturday have left the area, with Fall Out Boy proving themselves as saviours of Rock and Roll, again.
One direction at the Apple Music festival.
If you don't know, for 10 nights every September Apple take over the Roundhouse in Camden and fill it with some of the best music artists on the planet, a crowd lucky enough to have won a pair of tickets and then broadcast the show on iTunes/Apple music.
So a little over a week ago I was lucky enough to go and finally see One Direction! (Screams!)
I've been wanting to see One Direction for years but there has always been something that has meant I couldn't go so I was ridiculously excited to get to see them, in a small venue, before they take some time out.
So off we headed to North London, where (when we eventually got off the tube - seriously London people, how do you deal with that every day?) we went and got food before joining the biggest queue we have ever seen for The Roundhouse. Apparently some of the people at the front had been there overnight!? And halfway down the queue it split and there were hundreds of people waiting to see if they could get in on standby tickets. Craziness!
Apple Music is the first gig where I've ever been congratulated and welcomed to in such an enthusiastic manner, I think all venues should congratulate you upon entering.
Support came from Little Mix, and if I'm honest I wasn't convinced on them and though that I only knew about 2 songs.
I was incorrect on both accounts! There are a lot of Little Mix songs that I know, but didn't know they were Little Mix songs, and they absolutely owned that stage. So so good, their vocals were incredible, dancing was amazing, and if there was a little bit of miming (which there might have been, I don't know, I just suspect) then it wasn't obvious and would have been completely accepted because the whole show was so good.
The atmosphere was electric while we waited for One Direction.
Now I love One Direction, I have defended them from people who hate them because of how they became a band and blew up, because One Direction are a boy band, and whether you agree with the Xfactor or if you dislike their music, they are bloody brilliant at what they do! No one can deny that as a boy band they are blummin marvellous!!
So I was slightly apprehensive as to whether they would live up to expectations or if it was a lot of hype.
Pleased to report that in fact they exceed my expectations and were incredible!! I didn't know that Niall played guitar? I didn't think they would have a sense of humour towards Zayn leaving and where I was super excited to go, I wasn't prepared to love it so much!
I think after just one song I turned to my friend and exclaimed that I was totally attracted to all of them.
They played a great set, with a mix of older and new material and my personal fave 'Best Song Ever' and everyone was on their feet for 'You don't know you're beautiful'. There were singalongs, screams and plenty of love in the Roundhouse.
It was truly a amazing gig.
I could waffle on about it but I'm pretty sure you would rather look at some pictures.....
I just want to say a massive thanks to Priya for taking me as her guest!
I had a wicked time :)
Were you there? Or did you watch it online? Let me know what you thought in the comments below. X

Occasionally I still write things about music; here is 100 words about The Xcerts.

We missed most of Glass City Vice (sorry, but Tunbridge Wells has an incredible Wetherspoons), HeyRoccoo were awful. I have never regretted leaving a Spoons as much as I listening to them. It was Shocking/Funny.
Thankfully The Xcerts were there to take their noise induced pain away by diving headfirst into songs from 'There is only you'.
If the crowd had been big enough for frenzies then songs like ‘Live like this’ and ‘Kick it’ would have created them. Despite tech issues (handled particularly well) it was a stunning set, sadly we missed the end due to the bus.A photo posted by Lisa (@lisathepirate) on

The Haunt

Young Guns haven't played in Brighton long while and they are back tonight at a sold out show at the Haunt.
Blitz kids open with a strong set, proving that they can fill the gaps in both hearts and charts left by some recently departed bands.
They tore through their set starting with' I want out' to the closing of 'Bones' mixing in some new songs, to dance to (and dance we did) and songs old songs to sing to (and singalong we did). Highlights new songs teasers of the new album in the form of ‘Rising up’ and ‘Daylight’.
